A Training Workshop for Students of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo
On Wednesday; the 3rd of May, 2023, the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo organised an intensive training workshop for students of the Tourism Guidance Department at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels - Mansoura University. This workshop is considered the first workshop of its kind amongst faculties of Tourism and Hotels in Egyptian universities. Under the auspices of Prof. Sherif Youssef Khater; President of Mansoura University, the leadership of Prof. Mohamed Ahmed Abdellatif; Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels - Mansoura University, and the supervision of Prof. Detretch Raue; Director of the German Archaeological Institute
In Cairo, an intensive training workshop was organised for students of the Tourism Guidance Department at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels - Mansoura University. This workshop came as the result of the held agreement between Mansoura University; represented in the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels and the German Archaeological Institute.
The delegation of Mansoura University was headed by Prof.
Mohamed Ahmed Abdellatif; Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels and Coordinator of the workshop, in addition to the presence of Prof. Rehab Mahmoud Elsharnouby, Asst. Prof. Mona Ezz Aly and Dr. Karim Ahmed.
The delegation was received by Prof. Detretch Raue; Professor of Archaeology at Leizpig University in Germany and Director of the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo, as well as a number of German professors. It is noted that Prof. Raue praised Mansoura University for the progress he witnessed throughout his previous visit to it and during his encounter with Prof. Sherif Khater; President of Mansoura University . He also thanked Prof. Khater for the apparent efforts and the high standing of Mansoura University.
The workshop started by a visit to the ancient library of the institute, whereas different affiliated professors to the institute gave eight lectures about the ancient Egyptian Archaeology, as indicated:
- Rejuvenation of The Temple of Memnon Clossi in Luxor, by Prof. Horick
Sorezian.
- Management of Archaeological Sites, by Prof. Martin Shelhof.
- Archaeological Buildings, by Prof. Martin Shelhof.
- Excavations of Ancient Heliopolis City in Matariaa in Cairo, by Prof. Detretch Raue.
- Resources of Ancient Civilisation: Applied to the Nubian Community, by Prof. Mary Christine Shroder.
- Antiquities of Old Cairo in Ottoman Era by Prof. Mustafa Tobeef.
- Archive of Archaeologist Prof. Ahmed Fakhry, by Dr. Mustafa Tolba.
Throughout the workshop students posed different questions concerning lecturers' topics.
At the end of the workshop photos were taken with the German Archaeological Institute's team.
