A Symposium on "Green Technology and Its Role in Achieving Sustainable Development in Hotel Institutions"
Under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Latif, Dean of the Faculty, and the leadership of Prof. Mohamed Abdel Fattah Zohry, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and organised by Dr. Ahmed Saleh Abu El-Nin, Director of the Tourism Education Unit for Sustainable Development, a symposium titled "Green Technology and Its Role in Achieving Sustainable Development in Hotel Institutions" was held on Thursday, 28th November 2024. The symposium was presented by Ms. Ragda Mansour Al-Akhras, a teaching assistant in the Department of Hotel Studies.
The seminar is part of the activities plan for the Tourism Education Unit for Sustainable Development, which is affiliated with the Faculty’s Education and Student Affairs Sector, and aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4: "Quality Education," Goal 6: "Clean Water and Sanitation," and Goal 9: "Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure."
The seminar reviewed the concept of sustainable development and its 17 goals, as well as the concept of green technology and the importance of adopting it in various hotel institutions. The discussion also covered the latest technologies in the hotel industry, such as energy management systems, renewable energy, water and waste management systems, and recycling methods. Other topics included the "ISO 14001" environmental management system, sustainable hotel design, and the adoption of sustainable transport systems to reduce the carbon footprint, all of which play a crucial role in improving air quality and the indoor environment. The seminar concluded with a discussion on the main challenges facing the implementation of green technology in hotels and presented examples of hotel institutions both in Egypt and abroad that have successfully adopted these technologies.
At the end of the seminar, the floor was opened for questions and discussion with the attending students.
